
Formerly fields and a riverside meadow plus a wet willow woodland area, this
nature reserve is looked after by the Radnorshire Wildlife Trust. It is habitat
to many animals and plants such as the otter, several species of fish, birds
including tree creepers, kingfishers and dippers, bats that feed above the river,
woodmice and voles to name but a few. There are also many insects including
dragonflies and amphibians served by the ponds around the site. Plants and flowers
are also abundant. In summer it is also a favourite picnic and swimming spot.
The wooded section contains an old mill leat to run the waterwheel at the old
mill, the building is still there, now converted to a private house.
The upper part of Wentes Meadow has become a recreational area with skateboard
& bmx facility, childrens swings and playing area, a football pitch, and
a larger field which is used for some community functions like the Town Carnival
and also becomes the site for the Sheep Music Festival for a weekend usualy
in July.
