GLYNDWR'S WAY
|
|
Glyndwr's Way is a 132 mile trail dedicated to Owain Glyndwr, a 15th century Welsh warrior and self-proclaimed Prince. The trail passes through the heart of Glyndwr's former territory. It begins in Knighton heading generally NWW passing through Llanidloes to Machynlleth. Here it swings NE in direction and crosses the mountains to Lake Vyrnwy, from where it follows a SE course to Welshpool. It is possible to complete a circular walk by following the Offas Dyke Path from Welshpool back to Knighton. This 9-day walk will take you through breathtaking scenery and the wildlife possibilities are pretty good too as you are likely to see a Red kite, the symbol of Powys, along with Buzzards and Ravens to name only a couple. There is a Glyndwr centre in Machynlleth, where he proclaimed his seat of government. Other historical sites related to him are in the area covered by this website, notably the battlefield at Pilleth. You can get more information about the trail from the Offa's Dyke Centre in Knighton 01547 528753
