Wigmore castle on a hill overlooking the village, offers fine views of the surrounding countryside and has been made safe for visitors. Restoration work on the site focused on retaining its natural environment rather than turning it into a neatly-lawned set of ruins. The site is permanently accessible. |

St. James' church is mostly 12th - 15th century with
some 11th century herringbone masonry visible on its north wall. Inside
there are displays about the castle, the church and the Mortimers. In
the churchyard there is a 14th century 'niche' to be found in the base
of the churchyard cross. A full guide to the church is available inside.

The village also dates back to the 11th century when it was a 'borough' inhabited mainly by Normans providing services and supplies to the castle. There are plenty of medieval buildings and a full guidebook is available at the village shop. There are also a couple of pubs and a leisure centre amongst the local facilities.
