Titley is recorded amongst the possessions of Osbern le Scrob of Richards Castle
in the Doomsday Book. He held a large amount of land in this area at that time
stretching as far as the Teme valley in the N and Bleddfa in the W. These estates
had been given to him in the 1040's by Edward the Confessor. It is possible
that he built a castle to protect the S of his domains near the village. The
site is on the Knoll Garaway near Shawl above the Arrow where some earthworks
and a motte converted from a natural hillock have been identified.
