NORTON

This little church just off the Presteigne - Knighton road was heavily worked on by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1868 during which much of an earlier church was restored or rebuilt. Surviving parts of this are the S doorway and N window which may be Norman and a late medieval window. Evidence for a Norman church on this site is supported by the presence of a nearby castle motte. The font and some parts of the screen are 15th century. Good quality carving and a rather nice modern stained glass window make the interior worth a visit.
