KINSHAM

This small church lies 4 miles E of Presteigne. It is one single chamber thought to date from about 1300, although the windows may suggest a slightly older construction.Unusual details include an alms shutter in the S wall and a medieval stone alter slab set in the floor in front of the communion table.
There is a very nice old harmonium some 18th century woodwork and a tablet to Thomas Harley d.1738. The font and piscina are also of great age. To the E of the small churchyard the ground falls away to a hidden gorge 100 feet deep where Lancastrian troops are said to have fled after their defeat at the Battle of Mortimers Cross in 1461.
