BRAMPTON BRYAN
The church of St. Barnabas dates back to 1656 although the site is older. The original church was destroyed during a Royalist attack on the nearby castle in the civil war. Interesting features include some beautiful 17th century marquetry panels on the pulpit, a 14th century effigy of an unnamed woman with 14th and 15th century tiles set into the south wall and a blocked tower arch of about 1200 which can be seen in the west wall. The immaculate churchyard has a wonderful topiary hedge which extends around the adjacent large house.
